Demand Respect vs. Command Respect

What's the difference between those who demand respect as opposed to those who command respect?

What do I mean by demand respect?
Simply defined it's someone who says I have this title and you will call me by it. Whether the person worked for it (through education, determination, will power, or through experience in either their field of expertise or the business world) or it was granted unto them (through birth, social  graces, or in a business setting because they're the best brown-noser).

I've been told I will refer to someone their title (earned in college) because that's the only way others in the organization will take them seriously and respect them. Seriously? How weak a person is if they buy into that. Is the real truth that this person doesn't know how to work with others in such a way that their brilliance supersedes them?

What do I mean by command respect?
These are those who are recognized by others as having earned the respect offered. They don't have to demand it-it's granted because they treat others with respect and have proven themselves. Oft times they're personable, though sometimes they're more the type who goes about quietly doing their work at an accelerated level-high quality work. they may or may not be in leadership positions.

I've met scout masters, bishops, businessmen/women, and common every-day folk who are so amazing in their humility that you just can help but respect them. They're respected because they deserve it.
