The Adventures of Dove Step the Sheep, Chapter 3

Image
Chapter 3 Dove Step woke up with a start. It was very dark in the shadows.   The moon was full and bright. It was so pretty. Dove Step thought, “I’d like to go there someday and meet the sheep on the moon. It looks like such a bright happy place.” Suddenly the wind came up and it looked like the shadows were dancing. With the wind whistling in the trees, the shadows had music to dance to. In the morning he started talking to the other lambs about his great idea. After eating, they gathered and made ideas to go to the moon.  Let’s make a catapult!” said one lamb. “Let’s make wings!” said another “Let’s climb on each other!” “Let’s jump as high as we can!” “Let’s make a ladder!” “Let’s sing our way there!” “Let’s start tomorrow!” said Dove Step. They all started playing with a new and unified excitement. At end of day they went to bed so excited it was a tad bit hard to sleep. After feeding time the lambs gathered and decided to try each idea. One a...

The Adventures of Dove Step the Sheep, Chapter 2

Image
Chapter 2 After experiencing what it’s like to be a victim of a bully, Dove Step decided he did NOT want to be a bully. Dove started to notice that some of the plants in the meadow had tiny flowers on them. Dove Step was curious what they tasted like. So he selected a pretty purple one, bit it off the plant and started chewing. It was soft and had no extra flavor, but he liked the texture of the flower. It was kind of spicy. He told his friend and soon lots of sheep were eating purple flowers. Some were giving purple flowers to girl sheep. Other sheep were gathering all sorts of colors of flowers and throwing them in the air. The sheep were all having so much fun when it started raining. The sheep looked up but only got rain in their eyes. Some sheep started running around, scared. While others stayed calm. Then the mother sheep started bleating how the falling rain would cleanse the plants and nourish the earth. The young lambs found this calming to know that ...

The Adventures of Dove Step the Sheep, Summer 2015

Written by: Babers D Grandma Cousin Marbelle Chapter 1  Dove Step the sheep was born at a very, very early age. He loved the smell of his mother and the warmth of being near her. She was soft and warm. And she was very loving. Dove's first adventure was learning to stand on all four legs. Wow! Four legs to manage. What a job that was! He watched his mom standing and knew he could learn to do it too. He thought, "If she can, I can."  Illustrated by D Dove Step put on leg on the ground. Then both hind legs. He lost his balance and put his front hoof on his mom. He had done it! He put his last leg on the ground."Mommy! I'm standing." WOW!" said Dove Step.So Dove's first learning experience was a wibbly-wobbly one! Talking seemed to come so easy. However, understanding what mama sheep said took more. It had been a few weeks since Dove was born and he began to notice other sheep with their mothers in neighboring pens. Dove noticed his mo...

Demand Respect vs. Command Respect

What's the difference between those who demand respect as opposed to those who command respect? What do I mean by demand respect? Simply defined it's someone who says I have this title and you will call me by it. Whether the person worked for it (through education, determination, will power, or through experience in either their field of expertise or the business world) or it was granted unto them (through birth, social  graces, or in a business setting because they're the best brown-noser). I've been told I will refer to someone their title (earned in college) because that's the only way others in the organization will take them seriously and respect them. Seriously? How weak a person is if they buy into that. Is the real truth that this person doesn't know how to work with others in such a way that their brilliance supersedes them? What do I mean by command respect? These are those who are recognized by others as having earned the respect offered. The...

Attitudes and Triggers

What is This Trigger You Speak Of? Triggers and trigger fingers are interesting in their own rights. Triggers are easy to pull and when you're the only one who can be in control of said pulling, then, they're great things. Trigger fingers are one of the most well developed appendages of the body. You use them for everything all the time. Writing, pushing buttons, musical instruments, working, keyboards, pulling weeds, etc., etc. Don't even have to think about telling that little finger how to accomplish these things. You think of doing it, and that poor little appendage just obeys and does. Kind of a nice set up. What if the trigger is a word? Connected to a memory? Perhaps a memory shared by others. To you it may bring back fond memories of earlier days, days gone by; but to another it may bring back memories of an imperfection or perhaps you were too young to know better and therefore is a painful memory. Attitude About Triggers For the longest time for me every ...

Grocery Stores and Short-Order Cooks

Image
I've wondered of late the relationship between grocery stores and short-order cooks. What's brought this to mind is watching my kids interact with my grandkids. I hear things like, "Well, I don't think he/she will eat that two days in a row," and "He seems to be a vegetarian," and "He only likes sweets." Say what?! Seriously? They eat what you fix. You fix what you can afford to buy. So what has changed since I was a kid who ate what my parents put on the table (coon, possum, deer, squirrel, fish)? And what of my parents? I never heard stories of them eating anything other than what was served. If you didn't like what you were served, guess what, the next meal will be here in about four hours and you can eat then. No issues. So what has really changed? Well let's see. A young mother goes through all the same things every mother has gone through. How to get the kid to eat enough so they'll sleep through the night, be healthy, b...
