DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE GENERAL AUTHORITY(S)? WHO AND WHY?

Elder Neal A. Maxwell-because he has a deep spiritual base, an understanding and way of expressing the gospel principles and practices. Also, from reading his book I’m realizing how much I relate to him. He couldn’t ride a pony as a child no matter how many times he tried. Some other kid came along and after one day of trying was successful. To this his mother replied you were always kind to the animals. There is more to being always kind to the animals here. He emulated this ‘more’ I’m referring to in his last week of life. He was dying. His wife was speaking to him. He didn’t seem to hear her. She asked him if he had both of his hearing aids in. He replied, “Yes, I do. And if I could I would wear a third one.”

He had a sense of humor, a respect and love for his fellow beings, and exemplified his love of the Savior in all things.

The Measure of a Man

I loved this song. It was sung by Brett Raymond and it gave me a tremendous sense of where young men need to center themselves. The whole tape (yes, I have a cassette) is great, but this song speaks volumes. I played it often when my boys were teens-as much for me as for them. My youngest son even sang it at a program once-ah heaven-maybe some of it was getting where I really wanted it to go! The Measure of a Man comes from the album of the same name. It is by Clive Romney and friends. I have the hologram sticker that came with it. A Cerulean Blue Ice Cream

  Being a grandma, I have a tendency to like to ‘kidnap’ one of our grand kids and take them out for an ice cream. Not just because I love my grand kids and want to establish a relationship with them, but also because I like ice cream. You learn a lot of things from your kids if you watch and interact with them. Things like you can’t leave a three-year old unsupervised with scissors for very long. Disaster is definitely going to happen. Or with a permanent marker…around leather furniture. That kind of learning from your kids. Guess what?! The learning goes on with grand kids too! I took a grandson out for an ice cream. Small shop, 31 flavors of ice cream to choose from.
